Our Scottish depot goes from strength to strength, due in no small measure to the hard work and dedication of the team there. This endeavour has been acknowledged by several of our customers, most recently by the client and customer at the recent Winchburgh Tunnel contract.
Our customer emailed to say:
“Winchburgh substantially complete and handed back on time. Really good result and I would just like to pass on my thanks to you and your teams for helping achieve a real milestone for the project safely and on time.
I have witnessed some real dedication in the face of real adversity out there and I genuinely appreciate what everyone has contributed. Some real lessons to learn for the Queen Street blockade, and some things we need to build on; or change to ensure we deliver the next blockade as successfully as this one.
Thanks again, please pass on my thanks to your teams as it wouldn’t have been possible without their contributions.”
In preparation for the launch of cleaner, greener and quieter electric trains between Edinburgh and Glasgow from December 2016, Network Rail is refurbishing Winchburgh Tunnel, a few miles west of Edinburgh.
South Coast have been pumping the concrete there, setting up above the tunnel and pumping down onto the track. The job has gone smoothly as Network Rail explained to the BBC and STV News – see video below.
A South Coast Concrete Pumping job has recently been featured on the Evolution 5 Ltd website. Evolution 5 is a project management company based in Southampton and they have been engaged to manage the demolition of an existing property and the construction of a modern, spacious 6 bedroom home in its place. The new home is being built using insulating concrete formwork – in this case Beco Wallform.
Infilling Insulating Concrete Formwork
Once the blocks had been delivered to site, installed and reinforcing steel fixed, South Coast were booked to infill the blocks with concrete supplied by the local CEMEX plant.
First off, a layer of concrete with a damp proofing additive was pumped into the walls. Following this, the remaining concrete was built up in layers, as a controlled pour, to minimise the potential to damage the polystyrene blocks. The concrete, as is normal for this type of construction, was a 10mm aggregate mix.
Working for Studwelders at Wembley Stadium
South Coast Concrete Pumping was approached by Studwelders Composite Floor Decks Ltd to help install a new floor for the Bobby Moore Suite at Wembley Stadium. Following a technical site visit involving SCCP, Studwelders and the main contractor Buckingham Group, it was decided that the best option was to pump from pitch side.
Wembley Stadium – January 2015
Approximately 50 m3
of liquid floor screed was pumped through a 43m Schwing boom pump and 50 linear metres of static line to infill the floor. Wembley Stadium manager Simon Hainsworth and Buckingham’s Lee Snelling took the trouble to email and congratulate all involved as this was the first major pour since the stadium opened.

There are not many photo opportunities as iconic as this one and South Coast Concrete Pumping is proud to have been an integral part of this project.

Construction Index article – new pumps
Construction Index has recently published an article highlighting South Coast Concrete Pumping’s investment programme. It is illustrated by a picture of the first of an order of four new Putzmeister pumps to be delivered.
South Coast Concrete Pumping is experiencing a high demand both from existing customers who are busy and from new customers looking for reliable pumps and experienced operators.
It is anticipated that the current investment programme will have to be extended well into 2015 to meet current and expected workloads.
Due to the current condition of the concrete pump hire industry, we are very busy on our hire desk at present. Please bear with us during this busy period and rest assured that we will answer your calls as quickly as we possibly can.
We will welcome business from new customers in both England and Scotland but would like to point out that, wherever possible, we will be giving priority for pumps to our regular, loyal customers.
